NYPD Announces Sweeping Security Measures for MSG, World Cup Match

(MENAFN) The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced sweeping security measures Saturday around Madison Square Garden (MSG) ahead of a packed evening of major events, urging the public to plan ahead and leave bags at home.

Authorities confirmed that a secure perimeter would be established from 4 pm (2000 GMT), with every visitor required to pass through security screening before gaining access to the zone.

"Tonight is a big night for NYC, and we want everyone to have fun and be safe," the NYPD said on US social media company X.

The department noted that "there will be multiple major events in and around MSG," adding that officials would deploy "the same secure zone" framework successfully used during previous large-scale public gatherings in the city.

"Everyone will be screened. Get there early and leave bags at home," it said.

The heightened security posture comes as New York City braces for a high-profile double-header, with pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer headlining a concert and the Brazil–Morocco FIFA World Cup match drawing tens of thousands of fans to the area on the same evening.
